Watson Geophysical Mapping System - WGMS

The Watson Geophysical Mapping System integrates geophysical data from seismic, side scan sonar, forward looking sonar, sub-bottom data and bathymetric data sets, rendering 3-dimensional views of seafloor and sub-seafloor sections. The image processor has the capability to discern very small changes in the density of seafloor and sub-seafloor material types. With a extended signal dynamic range, and the capability to separate it into small increments, make subtle changes in material types possible to distinguish.

Side Scan Sonar and Bathymetry Data

The Watson Geophysical Mapping System (WGMS) utilizes Watson proprietary software that has been developed to collect and generate  seafloor mosaics.  During the processing of data it is possible to work on discrete data sets while interactively having the capability to view large data sets simultaneously. The WGMS incorporates both sonar beam angle correction and seafloor grazing angle correction. By utilizing these and other signal processing capabilities  the WGMS the final data product is substantially improved.
